Leigh Hopkins

Project Manager

Leigh Hopkins, AICP, is a Project Manager with Georgia Tech’s Enterprise Innovation Institute (EI²).  Prior to joining EI2, Leigh worked in private consulting in environmental and planning-related services, and in the public sector as a senior urban planner for the City of Atlanta with a focus on zoning compliance issues.  Leigh holds a Bachelor’s degree in Forest Resources from the University of Georgia, and a Master’s degree from Georgia Tech in City and Regional Planning.  Leigh brings practical planning experience and a focus on sustainable growth to the communities she assists.  Leigh works with her team to help create competitive and quality climates for Georgia communities and businesses to grow and thrive.  Recently, Leigh extended her knowledge-base to the energy sector, and served as a contributor on a research paper entitled, “Energy and Economic Development in the Southeast: Understanding the Impact of State and Federal Energy Policies on Traditional Economic Development Models”.  In addition to Leigh’s current role, her interests also include using GIS to study the impact of zoning regulations and urban design on community growth, sustainability, and economic redevelopment.

As an active member of the American Planning Association/Georgia Planning Association and Young Planners Group, Leigh earned her AICP certification in 2010.  Leigh participates in regular professional development courses through membership with the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) in pursuit of a Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) certification.  Leigh is also a member of the GEDA Young Professionals and Environment & Natural Resources committees, and the local Georgia Tech chapter of Toastmasters (“Techmasters”).  Leigh is active in the GIS Coordinating Committee (GISCC), which discusses the new applications and use of geospatial data in Georgia.
